It has been a very interesting journey for me delving into the world of improving foot function. It seems to me that most people over the age of 30 have or have had done sort of foot issue. Whether that be a bunion, Achilles tendon pain, plantar fasciitis etc. It has been very insightful looking at the width of client’s feet versus their shoe toe box. I have yet to see one client where there is sufficient room for their toes to sit in their shoes never mind to spread them! This has all got me thinking. Why is it that we spend time with children measuring the width of their feet (if indeed this is still common practice) but as adults we squeeze our feet into ‘fashion shoes’. In addition, all the extra padding in shoes under the arch, big toe and heel further restricts the natural function of our feet. I am now investigating the world of barefoot shoes and will blog about this separately.
